Steven Koch Obituary
Steven 'Steve' Koch, 70, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children on September 4, 2025. Born on November 13, 1954, to Thomas and Marie Koch, Steve was the oldest of 7 crazy kids. Steve was a devoted son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend. His life was a testament to hard work, kindness, and humor - a legacy he leaves deeply imprinted on the hearts of those who knew him.
Steve was the proud father of three children and grandfather to eight grandchildren: Anthony Koch (Kim), parents to Caroline, Conrad, Merritt, and Mary Kate; Nicole Paulsen, mother to Vivian and Luka; and Tommy Koch (Jill), parents to Oliver and Addison. Being a grandfather was one of Steve's greatest joys and his love for his grandchildren was boundless. Steve is survived by his children and grandchildren, five of his siblings (Karla, John, Mary, Dave and Jenny), and over 30+ nieces and nephews.
Awaiting him in Heaven are his beloved parents, Tom and Marie Koch, his sister Janet Gamble, sister in law Janet Koch, and his brother-in-law Paul Voda, with whom he now shares eternal peace.
Steve was an extraordinary father who instilled in his children the value of hard work, the importance of integrity, and the meaning of being a good person. He cherished family and friendships above all else. His sense of humor was unmatched, a gift that brought laughter to countless moments and remained with him even through life's most difficult times.
Steve loved watching his grandchildren play sports and was an avid college wrestling fan. He would travel hours to watch tournaments. He also enjoyed playing and watching golf, and you could often find him and his brothers watching together (or resting their eyes). He loved his Phillips golf league and looked forward to spending time with his buddies every week.
Steve was known for getting an idea in his head of something that he wanted to do and then nothing could stop him from achieving his goal. Examples include riding RAGBRAI countless times, riding the Rockies, and numerous triathlons including completing an Ironman. He also enjoyed riding his Harley and snow mobiling in the North woods of Wisconsin with his dear friend Louie.
One of Steve's wild adventures was owning Meister's Bar and Grill in Phillips, WI for nearly 15 years. He made many dear friends during that time and made an impression on the community that lives on. Steve loved his Phillips, WI friends and missed them dearly when he moved away.
Steve will be remembered not only for his love and devotion to his family, but also for the way he touched the lives of everyone around him with warmth, laughter, and sincerity. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire his children, grandchildren, and all those who were blessed to know him.
The family will hold a small family memorial at a later date and will also plan a celebration of life event in Phillips, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
