Steven Lok-Yu Lau, age 46, of Dixon, California, fought a brave battle with stage 4 cancer for four months. On July 16, 2024, with his wife by his side, he was taken home by his heavenly father. Born on June 21, 1978, in Hong Kong, Steven graduated from Diocesan Boys' School in 1997 and moved to Davis, California for his undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at UC-Davis. After graduating in 2000, he worked for Environ and then became an Associate Air Quality Planner with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District.
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Li Kai Huang; sons, Linus and Louis; parents, Chong Ming Lau and Sik Lin Wong; sister and brother-in-law, Lydia and Quincy Wong, and many other cherished relatives and in-laws.
Steven loved his family. He spent quality time with his sons and treasured family time. He especially enjoyed planning meaningful trips with his family in Asia. He also took care of endless tasks at home and always brought his smile and laugh home even after a full day of work. Steven was a thoughtful son, planning for his parents' transition from Hong Kong to the US and taking care of their daily needs. He also extended his care to his in-laws.
Steven loved his Lord and was wholeheartedly devoted to the Lord's work. He spent endless hours preparing Sunday School lessons and all his students appreciated and benefited from his teaching. He was gifted in administration as well and had updated the Cantonese Fellowship bylaws of his prior church.
Steven was a people person. He respected the elders and cared for the younger ones. His generosity made him keen in recognizing the need of others, and he had no hesitations in meeting those needs. He cared for others, often sacrificing his own time and disregarding his own needs to focus on theirs.
Steven was a well-organized person, a quality he enjoyed using both at work and at home. He documented all his financial statements and bills with binders filling up his study room, and as an avid computer lover, he networked his home computers with multiple servers. His favorite animated character was Sailor Moon, and his signature pose as Sailor Moon was captured in many photos.
Steven finished the race set before him well and now is peacefully resting with the Lord he loves. He is missed by all those who knew him. A Celebration of Life service in Steven's honor will be held at 10 a.m. on August 17, Saturday, at Chinese Grace Bible Church. (6656 Park Riviera Way, Sacramento, CA 95831. Phone: 916-422-4253). All are welcome to celebrate his life with the church family.
