Published by Legacy on Nov. 6, 2025.
Steve Lawrence, an extraordinary example of love and courage, passed away on October 28, 2025, in Barrington, IL, leaving behind a legacy of passion and kindness that will forever be cherished. Born on February 24, 1951, in Chicago, IL, Steve's life was a tapestry of joyous moments and enduring love, woven together with the threads of family and adventure.
A devoted husband, Steve married the love of his life, Julie Benson, on November 26, 1972, at the Drake Hotel. Their marriage was a journey of mutual devotion and happiness that spanned 53 wonderful years. Together, they raised a family that became Steve's pride and joy: children Leeanne (Todd) LoPresti, Brennen (Marti) Lawrence, Justin (Tina) Lawrence, and Jamie (Ryan) Lawrence. Steve's role as "Boompa" to his beloved grandchildren Tyler, Nick, Jenna, Liam, Maya, Hayley, Kylene, and Guy was one he cherished with every fiber of his being. His love extended to his fur baby, Marley, who was a constant companion and source of comfort.
Steve's spirit of adventure was evident in his love for flying and traveling the country in his motorhome. His passion for motorcycles and summers spent at the family's Rock River home spoke volumes about his zest for life. A man of many interests, he found solace in the company of horses and the thrill of the open road.
His siblings, Barbara (Bob) Brownstein and Lester (Adrienne) Lawrence, knew Steve as a true leader of the family, a man who could do everything. He was preceded in death by his parents, Major and Allene Lawrence, and his dear friend, John Stegmeyer. Steve's enduring friendship with Jock Rystom, along with many nieces and nephews, reflects the vast network of lives he touched and enriched.
Steve's strength was not just physical but also emotional and intellectual. He had a heart that would reach out to help anyone and everyone in need. His capacity for love knew no bounds, and his courage in the face of life challenges was an inspiration to all who knew him.
As we say goodbye to Steve, we celebrate a life lived with boundless passion and courageous love. He was the embodiment of strength and tenderness, a man who loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. His memory will live in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have felt the warmth of his generous spirit.
Steve Lawrence's journey on earth may have come to an end, but the stories of his love, leadership, and the joy he brought to every room will continue to resonate for generations to come. He was truly one of a kind, and while he will be greatly missed, the impact of his life's work and the love he shared will never be forgotten.
