Steven C. Lingafelter was born in Peoria, IL August 28, 1957, the eldest son of Erland Gayle and Martha A. "Mart" Lingafelter. Steve attended grade school and graduated Hutsonville High School with the Class of 1976. On Sunday October 4th, 1970, 13-year-old Steve and friends were riding Shetland Ponies when a near-tragic accident involving one of the ponies nearly killed Steve; fracturing his skull in four places, causing moderate brain trauma. At an early age Steve began working and honing the life skills that would serve him so well in years to come. Like all kids in small towns, job opportunities were limited so Steve took whatever kind of work he could get. He worked at Atwood's Grocery (which later became Marshall Forren's Grocery store as a meat cutter and butcher. Steve had such a following of customers who only wanted Steve to cut their meat because of the care with which he handled the product. He later worked for Gayle Gower Construction and Don York Construction and was known to be an excellent concrete finisher. When his parents became less able to take care of themselves, Steve and his sister Lisa stepped up and began taking turns with household duties so that his parents could remain in their home in their later years.
As time went by, Steve found fishing a very enjoyable pastime and spent many hours with his friends, in his Jon boat, fishing the Wabash River. Steve treasured his friends and family and they in turn received all of Steve's love and admiration.
Steven passed into eternity on Thursday morning June 20, 2024, at his residence near Annapolis, IL with his sister and brother-in-law at his bedside.
Surviving Steve are his brother Bradley Lingafelter of Hutsonville, IL; a sister Lisa (Steve) Tracy of Annapolis; five nieces and nephews, Danger (Kendall) Byler, Decatur, IL; Emilie (Daniel) McKnight, Flat Rock, IL; Jason (Ashlei) Lingafelter, Robinson, IL; Sydney (Tyler) Dix, Robinson, IL; Justin (Stephanie) Crawford, Robinson, IL.
Graveside Services for Steven C. Lingafelter will be conducted Monday June 24, 2024, at 10:00 am at the Hutsonville Cemetery, Hutsonville, IL with Brother Randy Nave officiating. Visitation will be Sunday June 23, 2024, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at Pulliam funeral Home in Hutsonville, IL.
