With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Steven "Steve" Kirk Lowder, born September 2, 1978, in Salmon, Idaho, to Harrold Dennis Lowder and Sharon Lavon (Holmes) Lowder.
Steve is survived by his loving parents and his two older brothers: Monte Lowder (wife Becky) and their children Courtney, Nicole, Ryan, and Kyle; and brother Greg Lowder (wife Laura) and their children Alyssa and Preston.
Steve's greatest joy in life was his family. He is survived by his wife, Katherine (Katie) Lowder, and their three children: Katelyn Lowder Smith (husband Weston and their son, Steve's beloved grandson, Theodore "Theo" Smith), Austin Lowder, and Chloe Lowder.
A Life Filled With Heart, Humor, and Talent
Steve was born in the small town of Salmon, Idaho, where he quickly became the quintessential little brother-always teasing Monte and Greg, always stirring up mischief, and always making his family laugh. His brothers affectionately called him "Shorty," despite the fact that he eventually grew to be the tallest of the three.
The Lowder family moved several times before settling in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was there, during his senior year of high school, that Steve met Katie. When Steve later moved to Salt Lake City with his family, the two stayed closely connected. As soon as he graduated, Steve packed up his things and returned to Albuquerque to be with the girl he loved. Steve and Katie were married on May 29, 1999, beginning a life of adventure and family together.
Not long after, they moved to San Antonio, Texas, where Steve worked with his brother Greg and sister-in-law Laura. On February 15, 2001, Steve and Katie welcomed their first daughter, Katelyn, who instantly became their whole world. Katelyn was gentle, kind, and loving-still is-and she brought immeasurable joy into their lives.
On June 20, 2005, they welcomed their son Austin, who was full of life, energy, and just enough mischievousness to keep up with his dad. Together, Austin and Steve kept Katie on her toes and filled their home with laughter.
Their youngest daughter, Chloe, arrived on July 11, 2011. Chloe is a perfect blend of Steve and Katie-witty, full of life, thoughtful, and bright. Steve adored his children deeply and cherished being their dad.
In 2022, Katelyn married Weston Smith, who quickly became the second son they always hoped for. In October of 2024, the family was blessed with their first grandson, Theo, who brought pure joy and light into everyone's life.
A Man of Many Gifts
Steve was talented in countless ways. An advanced skier, a skilled welder, a creative craftsman, and a natural salesman-there wasn't much he couldn't do when he set his mind to it. He loved being outdoors, especially in the mountains, and always had a project in the works. He built, fixed, created, and explored with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Steve also had a rare gift for connecting with people. He made friends wherever he went, striking up conversations that often turned into lifelong relationships. He was the kind of neighbor who always showed up-ready to help, ready to work, and ready to bring humor to any situation. His presence filled a room, and his laughter filled the hearts of those around him.
Forever Loved
Steve was one of a kind-full of heart, full of life, and full of personality. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him and forever remembered.
May he rest in peace, held in the arms of our Lord and Savior.
