Ned Lowder Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Ned Edward Lowder Sr., 88, of Fair Play, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2025. Born in Albemarle, North Carolina on August 7, 1937, he was the son of Malvern Adolphus Lowder and Bessie Geneva (Hahn) Lowder, of Albemarle.

Ned was a proud 1955 graduate of Albemarle High School, and he faithfully attended his class reunions until he could no longer travel. He attended North Carolina State University and Mars Hill College before changing direction and joining the military. He served in the Army Security Agency during the Cold War where he worked as a code breaker on the Germany-Czech border. He recalled these years often and fondly, and he never lost touch with his closest friends who served by his side.

In 1961, Ned enrolled at Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, North Carolina. It was there he met 19 year-old Diane Lewis, who would become the love of his life. Ned graduated in 1964 with a bachelor's degree in accounting, he then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina to start his accounting career with Peat Marwick Mitchell. It was not long before Ned changed fields from accounting and began a long and successful career in computer software sales.

Ned had a remarkable gift for joy. He loved tennis, classic cars, motorcycles and bluegrass music-especially when he could sing along and pat his knee in perfect rhythm. His sense of humor was legendary in his family. He told excellent jokes and offered even better life advice.

Above all, Ned was a man of faith. A lifelong Christian, he was an active and devoted member of Fair Play Presbyterian Church until his health no longer allowed him to attend services. Ned leaves behind a legacy of laughter, wisdom, and stories that will be told for generations. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Ned is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Diane Lewis Lowder, son and daughter-in-law Ned "Chip" Lowder Jr. and Kristen Lowder of Ball Ground, Georgia, his daughter Kelly Lowder Baldwin of Cumming, Georgia, his sister-in-law Linda Lewis and his beloved grandchildren, Anna Lowder Deets, William Lowder, Jack Baldwin and Katie Baldwin. Also surviving are nieces and nephews: Patricia Lowder Shelton, Barbara Lowder Copple, Jim Lowder, Bill Lowder, Arnie Lowder, Lew Smith, Mike Smith and Allison Smith McLean. Ned was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Malvern Lowder, his sister, Jeneece Lowder Smith, and his brother, Jerry Lowder.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025 at Noon, with a reception following.
