Funeral services for Steven Maass, 56 of
Giddings, Texas, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings with Rev. Robert Tiner and Rev. Joshua Hahn officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, December 16, 2023 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Steven Ray Maass was born on August 14, 1967 in
La Grange, Texas, the son of Milton and Ruby (Synatschk) Maass. He was baptized on September 10, 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Emil F. Krugler and confirmed on April 4, 1982 also at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Robert J. Koenig. His confirmation verse was 1 Corinthians 6:20, "you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies". Steven attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Giddings High School. He worked for Kaemark in Giddings for many years before opening Maass Sawmill, which he owned and operated up until his death. He was a hard worker good at with working with his hands. Through the years, he built hundreds of picnic tables, benches, chairs, and other furniture pieces. If it could be made out of wood, Steven could create it. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he had served as a Head Usher. He also volunteered countless hours with API and made the stick horses for the kids each year. Steven enjoyed being around people and could often be found at Loebau Store or Max Ebner's Holding Pens in Giddings visiting with his friends. He was an excellent gardener who enjoyed hunting and playing dominoes. He loved taking care of his animals, especially his dogs. He was a dad who was extremely proud of his kids and what all they had accomplished.
Steven passed away during the early morning hours of Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at his home in Giddings, following a battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Maass, and his son, Justin Arldt.
Steven is survived by his two children, Aaron Maass, and his wife, Katelyn of Manheim and Megan Wachsmann, and her husband, Randy of Manheim; six grandchildren, Colson, Kayde, and Adaleigh Maass of Manheim, Kanon and Kase Wachsmann of Manheim, and Dana Arldt of Giddings; his mother, Ruby Maass of Giddings; his sister and brother-in-law, Linda & Richard Schonhoeft of Giddings; Wendy Davis of Giddings, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Greg Trujillo, Chad Kunkel, Chance Fritsche, Mark Noack, Doug Blasig, Stephen Mersiovsky, Anthony "Sarge" Muniz, and Kenny Kmoch. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Ebner, Darrell Reuther, Keith Miertschin, and Tommy Lehmann.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran E.C.C. Train Up a Child Fund or to the
charity of one's choice.
