Steven MacPhail Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Beverly on Nov. 4, 2021.
Steven L. "Nemo" MacPhail, 84, died peacefully on October 29, 2021 at Beverly Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Elisabeth J. (Dunn) MacPhail and was born in Beverly to the late Adam and Eunice (Hannable) MacPhail. As a lifelong resident of Beverly Farms, he was an only child who happily gained seven brothers and six sisters when he married the love of his life "Betty" Dunn in 1960.
Nemo graduated from the Claude H. Patton Trade School in 1955 where he studied machinery and enjoyed playing for the Beverly High School Hockey Team. He worked for Connolly Brothers in his youth and then as a master machinist at Reid Brothers and Varian where he also taught in the Tech Program until he retired.
He continued his love of hockey for many years by playing in local hockey leagues including the Onion River League. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends in the Beverly Farms Golf League and even played softball for the Tunipoo Tigers, one of his favorite Farms hangouts. He spent decades eagerly awaiting BHS Panthers football season, along with watching his beloved Bruins, Patriots and Red Sox teams.
Nemo will be remembered by his Farms neighbors for setting the record of entering 50 consecutive years of floats in the 4th of July Horribles Parade, winning many prizes and trophies. He was honored to be named the Grand Marshall of the parade in 2019.
He was a kind, caring and proud father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family. He is survived by two sons, Bill MacPhail and wife Denise of Beverly Farms, Bob MacPhail and wife Denise of Beverly, and four grandchildren, Sid, Nick, Emma and Travis MacPhail.
His funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Church, 672 Hale Street, Beverly Farms on Friday November 5, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will follow in the Beverly Farms Cemetery.
Nemo was the caretaker to many cats throughout his lifetime and frequently contributed to the Mass. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to MSPCA angell
