Susan Marie (Johnson) Mac Phail, 74, a devoted mother and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully at her home in Stoughton, MA, on Friday October 10th, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was lovingly surrounded by her family in her final moments.

A longtime resident of Stoughton, Susan - affectionately known as “Sue” - was born in Brockton, MA, on July 25th, 1951 to Ada V. Johnson and Vincent L. Johnson. She was raised and educated in Easton, graduating from Oliver Ames High School. She went on to earn her nursing diploma from the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing. For more than 40 years, Susan selflessly served as a licensed practical nurse, including nearly 20 years at Norwood Hospital, before retiring.

Throughout her nursing career, Susan was a passionate advocate for patients, especially those facing addiction and mental health challenges. Her unwavering dedication and compassionate care made a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals and families.

Susan lived a full and vibrant life. She shared a long term loving relationship with Fred Williams, with whom she built a life filled with adventure and joy. Together they enjoyed riding motorcycles, snowmobiling, camping, and RV travel across the U.S. She especially loved cruising in her white Mustang convertible. A devoted animal lover, Susan raised and bred many dog breeds over the years, cherishing them as members of her family—especially her beloved pets Gadget, Lance, and Lizzy.

Above all, Susan was a deeply loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the values of honesty, generosity, kindness, and empathy. Her life was defined by the unwavering love and support she gave to all those around her.

Susan is survived by her beloved partner Fred Williams of Stoughton and her children: Britta S. Reissfelder-Harrold and her husband Joseph Harrold, Richard A. MacPhail and his wife Melissa, and Rachel M. MacPhail-Klidas and her husband George Klidas, all of Canton; Shelly A. Ferzoco of Quincy; Jillian T. MacPhail of Stoughton; Kyle W. Yasi of Foxboro; Jennifer Cormier and her husband Shane of Whitman; and Julia Williams of Maine.

The youngest of nine siblings, Susan is also survived by four of her brothers and sisters, 17 adoring grandchildren, 4 precious great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday October 18, 2025 at 10 AM at the Canton Congregational Church, 1541 Washington Street, Canton, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s name may be made to Canton Congregational Church, c/o Dr. John Tamilio, 1541 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021.
