Steven McCune, age 69, of Hawley passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 6, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Rosalie (Pellitteri) McCune.
Born January 19, 1955, in Queens, NY, Steven was the son of the late Alfred and Claire (Schreiner) McCune. He was a veteran of the Army Airborne Rangers. He was able to put that training to work when he became a police officer in 1986. He began as a patrol officer and worked his way up the ranks from sergeant to lieutenant, captain and finally became police chief of Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, NY. He also served as a range instructor, armorist, crisis negotiator and SRT.
Formerly of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, he had been a Hawley resident for 20 years. Steven was a member of BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley and Lakeville Volunteer Fire Company. He enjoyed doing construction and landscaping. He loved animals, especially his four dogs.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Angelina McCune and her fiance' Christopher Trotta of Hawley; his son: Thomas McCune and his wife Alyssa of Honesdale; three
Grandchildren: Ryan, Gabriella and Aaron Steven; one sister: Kathy Speizio and her husband Al; his sister-in-law and her husband: Antoinette and Bill Caruana; and his brother-in-law and his wife: Joseph and Kathy Pellitteri.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Dec. 12, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Teeters' Funeral Chapel, Inc., 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Friday, Dec. 13, at 10:00 AM at BVM Queen of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated by Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor. Interment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.

Steven, you have made your final jump into the landing zone. You are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow veteran.
