Alan will be remembered as a kind, gentle and elegant person who always had time for a few words. He loved his family. One time he went to a conference in Washington DC and he asked me for an idea to bring something special home to Linda. I told him about the bookshop in the National Cathedral, where I had just seen the most beautiful, illuminated music manuscripts. These were old and exceptional. He was thrilled and brought a beauty back for her. He was proud of his children and grandchildren. A man who will be missed!

Dear Linda and family,
I knew Alan through Hawk Mountain Search & Rescue School. The world has lost such a lovely man, a true gentleman by any definition.
He always encouraged other staff members to take care of their physical selves; most mornings of the school he would invite several of us to walk or run with him. He spoke often of you, his family, and his faith.
He will be missed greatly.
