Steven Daniel McNatt, Jr., 64, of Laurel, DE, formerly of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He had lived most of his adult life in Melbourne & Palm Bay, Florida before moving back to Delaware in early June to live with his sister after being diagnosed in March.
Steve was born in Dover, DE on 10/28/60 to the late Steven and Phyllis McNatt. He is survived by his daughter Megan Barr, DMV (Josh) of Dunnellon, Florida, sister and caregiver Donna Messick (Burt) and his niece Samantha of Laurel. He is also survived by three aunts, an uncle, and numerous cousins. He was divorced. Additionally, he is survived by his longtime companion, Nancy Carlino, most recently of Franklin, KY.
Steve graduated from Smyrna High School in 1978. He ran on the Cross Country team. He was well known for his distinctive 1959 Chevrolet, fondly referred to as "The Batmobile." With a sense of duty and service to his country, he enlisted in the Navy shortly after graduating. His six years of service included a notable three-year stint on the USS NIMITZ. He was last stationed in Pensacola, Florida.
Following his Honorable Discharge, Steve stayed in the greater Pensacola area with his then-wife Karen Murphy, and started his lifelong career in law enforcement. He served as a Deputy Sheriff for Escambia County for close to six years. Afterwards, he and Karen moved to Melbourne, FL, where he served the citizens of Brevard County as a Deputy Sheriff for over 24 years. During his career there, Steve held several positions, including Field Training Officer, Agent (Detective), and Sergeant. He was known for his camaraderie, quick wit and sense of humor. He retired in 2020.
He was a life member of VFW Post 8801 in Clayton, and Masonic Lodge #296 West Pensacola.
Steve will be remembered for his thoughtfulness, his generosity, and his great sense of humor with the uncanny ability to cite amusing quotes of many, many movies.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 from 11 AM to 12 PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main Street in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 12 PM. Burial will be privately held.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in his honor to
