Steven Leslie Nave
Date of Birth: February 27, 1949
Date of Death: January 19, 2024
Steven Leslie Nave, age 74, passed away on January 19, 2024 at the Windsor
Nursing Home in Seguin, Texas. He fought bravely against Parkinson's Dementia.
Legends Funeral Home in San Marcos Texas is supervising his cremation, and his
ashes will be scattered in the Okanogan Highlands of Washington State.
Mr. Nave was born February 27, 1949 in Jeffersonville, Clark County, Indiana to
James Edward Nave and Ruth Isabelle Dufoe (Nave). He had one brother, James
David Nave, and a sister Aleta Ruth Nave (Casciaro). In addition to his parents,
Mr. Nave was preceded in death by his nephew Zachariah Hunt, and his brother
James David Nave.
Being active in weight training all of his life, he also learned Karate Martial Arts
during his formative years in high school. His first job was working for the Kitsap
Sun Newspaper in Bremerton, Washington and then as a Law Clerk in downtown
Seattle, Washington. In his early twenties he learned his trade as a roofer in home
construction from his step-dad and established his own roofing company where he
worked all over the Pacific Northwest, and Texas for more than fifty years.
Mr. Nave was passionate about nature and animals preferring the simple life over
more modern conveniences, and the quiet lifestyle of the Okanogan Highlands
where he could farm, hunt, fish while living off the land. Hunting with his prized
muzzle loading rifles he'd often live and dress the part of a genuine Mountain man
where in small towns he was known as "Long Knife" due to his leather-clad bowie
knife strapped to his thigh. His proudest accomplishment was building seven log
homes from trees off the land using primitive tools and a wagon pulling draft
horses to haul them with. He's always said that he was born 150 years too late.
Mr. Nave is survived by his wife S.E. (Sam) Marks-Nave, and his daughters,
Julianne L. Nave (Nilson), Jennifer L. Nave (Knowles), Shyfawn Johnson (Ryks),
Wendy Kay Zollman, and sons Steven L. Nave Jr., Casey A. Frederick, Aaron G.
McKechnie and Jon J. McClary.
