Steven Loy Nyce

Steven Loy Nyce was born in Betts Hospital in Easton, PA, on September 10, 1957, to Cleon and Mari-An Nyce. He lived most of his childhood in Pennsylvania, where his father was a Mennonite pastor with various placements throughout nearby Regions. He attended Christopher Dock Mennonite High School (now Dock Mennonite Academy) and graduated in 1975. He then spent two years in London, Ontario with Mennonite Voluntary Service. Afterwards, he spent two years at Hesston Junior College in Kansas. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work at Eastern Mennonite College (University).

Known for his engaging personality, Steve never met a stranger. He was equally comfortable interacting with foster families as a caseworker at People Places, with poultry farmers or customers when he worked for Rocco and Pilgrims Pride Poultry companies, and with doctors and nurses and office Janitors during his time working in pharmaceutical sales for Merck and Novo Nordisk.

Steve loved spending time in the outdoors! Whether it was cutting wood for their wood stove, Fishing on the riverbank or in the surf at the beach, playing golf, deer and dove hunting, or repairing a fence line on their farm near Broadway, Virginia, he was in his element in God's creation.

Steve was born a musician at heart. Known for his ability to adapt to any stringed instrument, he mastered the acoustic and bass guitars, the mandolin, and upright Bass. He shared his musical talents by accompanying music during worship at Park View Mennonite Church, where he was an active member and with Blue Grass bands, Daphna Creek, Thompson's Store Revival and Seldom Serious. He participated in local and regional Festivals.

He died on July 19, 2025, after a long struggle with prostate, liver, and kidney cancer. He was the oldest of 3 children, and is survived by his mother, Mari-An Nyce, his siblings: Greg Nyce and Anita Mast; his wife, Deborah, his sons; Matthew and Jonathan as well as their wives; Delila and Julia and beloved grandson.

A celebration of Steve's Life will be held at Park View Mennonite Church in September. The exact date will be announced....check on-line at www.Pvmchurch.org.
