She graduated from Broadway High School with the class of 1957. She worked as the Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue for Rockingham County for 10 years. She then went back to work as the Chief Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue for the City of Harrisonburg for 20 years. She was a member of the Timberville Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Timberville Museum.

Kay is survived by her husband of 60 years, John Miller Coffman, whom she married on September 11, 1965. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Michele Minnick and husband Richard of Harrisonburg, VA; her daughter, Joni Biller and husband Tony of Timberville, VA; granddaughter Kayla Biller of Broadway, VA; granddaughter Alexis Minnick of Harrisonburg, VA; grandson Jaden Minnick of Harrisonburg, VA; three great-grandchildren, Carson Biller, Charlotte Stout, and Lucy Stout all of Broadway, VA; niece Rebecca "Becky" (Ashenfelter) Augustine and husband, Melvin of Salina, KS; niece Beth Branner Gore and husband, Wil of Charlottesville, VA, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Kay is also survived by an identical twin sister, Joan "Fay" (Ashenfelter) Branner of Timberville, VA.

Kay found joy in life's simple pleasures and loved various types of flowers and birds. She rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune. She enjoyed doing puzzles and did the crossword puzzle every day. Kay loved to travel all over the country, including a driving trip her and her husband took to Alaska and to the Arctic Circle. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time on her iPad playing games. She loved spending time with family and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

Pastor Karl Magenhofer will conduct a memorial service on Sunday, March 22 at 2:30 P.M. at the Timberville Church of the Brethren. Burial will be private.
