It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Henry Otten, age 77, of West Bend, WI, who passed away peacefully in the early morning of October 16, 2025, after a long and challenging battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Steve was born on April 14, 1948, to the late William and Jeanne (Boesewetter) Otten. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol (Kurth); his daughters, Leigh (Christopher Hennessy) and Jenny (Paul Peterson); his cherished grandchildren, Caroline, Spencer, and Danielle; and his siblings, Michael, Robert, Dion, Jeffery, and Linda.
Steve proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as part of the 101st Airborne Division and earned a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. After returning home, he dedicated his career to education as an MPS Home and Hospital Teacher, where he made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
An active and devoted member of West Granville Presbyterian Church, Steve was a faithful volunteer, serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher, participating in mission trips, tutoring students at Maple Tree Elementary School, and contributing his time to countless other church activities.
He loved the simple joys of life — reading the newspaper each morning, tackling the crossword (especially the Cryptoquip), watching Jeopardy!, golfing, and traveling with family. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and compassion.
Visitation: Steve’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, November 1st, from 10:00 to 10:50 am at West Granville Presbyterian Church (6935 N 107th St, Milwaukee, WI 53224)
Funeral service and reception: A memorial service in remembrance of Steve will take place at 11:00 am immediately following visitation, with a reception after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Granville Presbyterian Church Perseverance Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Veterans Community Project Milwaukee (https://www.build-vcp-milwaukee.org/donate) in Steve’s memory.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
