Steven Roy Overby, 64, of Hockley, TX passed away with his wife and son by his side on Friday, June 30, 2023.
Steve was born June 30, 1959 in Fargo, ND, to Herman and Lucille (Brager) Overby. He grew up and attended school in Moorhead, MN. After high school, he worked at Webb Enterprises, West Fargo, ND; Concordia College, Moorhead, MN; and Rice University, Houston, TX. He was married to Mary Beth in 1991 and they relocated to Texas in 2012.
Steve made friends everywhere he went. People were not strangers; they were friends he hadn't met yet. He was always willing to lend a hand and go out with friends to watch the Vikings. He was a DIY guy, building or fixing things around the house and working on his beloved Chevy pickup trucks. Steve loved to draw. He drew on every phone book and wayward piece of paper. Monster truck drawings were his specialty. He was also a lively dancer and knew a surprising number of bicycle and scooter tricks. He loved and cared for a wide range of animals throughout his life including dogs, cats, birds, lizards, reptiles, and various rodents.
Steve is survived by his wife, Mary Beth Mathre; children David, Susan, Elizabeth and Christopher; his sister Linda Overby and her son Jeremy; grandchildren Evan, Sophia, Isabelle, Connor, Joselyn and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Dennis and Gary.
Steve's family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Valiente Senior Living, Magnolia, TX and Devotion Hospice of TX for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 15, 2023, with a visitation one hour before the service at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.
