Verna Overby Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Funeral Home on Feb. 2, 2026.
Verna Geneve Overby of Nashua, NH passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on January 20, 2026 after a fulfilled and blessed life. She is now with her Lord and Savior.

Verna was born February 12, 1931 in Goodhue, Minnesota to the late Bastien and Ida Okkelberg. She graduated from Wanamingo High School, class of 1948. Verna married Luverne Jens Overby August 19, 1950, who preceded her in death May 26, 1995.

Verna was a devoted stay at home mom and was very active in her children's activities including her volunteer work as a den mother for Boy Scouts, planning several birthday parties, and attending field trips, to name a few.

Verna was an impeccable seamstress creating beautifully detailed and unique outfits for her daughters. She also enjoyed needle work, counted cross stitch and crocheting, and always attempted a new craft or two. Her culinary skills were over the top. She loved to cook for her ever-growing family and Christmas was a feast, which included all her baked delights. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and would prepare some traditional recipes to include sandbakkel cookies, lefse and lutefisk, though lutefisk was not shared by all.

As a young lady, Verna always dreamed of getting into the nursing profession where she could make a difference in the lives of others. She accomplished this when she was hired as a Nursing Assistant and further used her knowledge in caring for her family. After moving from the Midwest to New Hampshire, she worked as an assembler for Teradyne Connection Systems for several years before retiring.

Verna was very devoted to her faith and enjoyed attending church. She was active in choir, bible studies and loved cooking for the pot luck dinners.

Verna is sadly missed by her children, Lori (Robert) Bryant and Sharon (Dean) Strauss; grandchildren, Jason (Kimberlee) Overby, Stacy Picard, Brian (Jesseca) Overby, Erik Rozzi, Daniel Rossignol, Travis Rossignol, Courtney Overby, Tyler Overby; and daughter-in-law Tammy (Jack) Bollen. Verna is further survived by multiple great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Verna was preceded in death by her sons Mark Jeffrey Overby and Paul Stuart Overby; brothers Irving (Ruth) Okkelberg, Burton (Ingrid) Okkelberg, and sisters Hildegard (Thorney) Thoreson, Borgney (Selmer) Foss, and Dolly (John) Ylvisaker.

Services will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 130 Spitbrook Rd, Nashua, NH 03062, April 25, 2026 at 10:00 am, followed by burial of Verna's and Luverne's cremated remains in a memorial garden on the premises. You're invited to join the family for a luncheon in the church fellowship hall following the interment.

I always admired Verna and her servant's heart. She was truly a woman of God and role model for future generations. We shared MN roots, Norwegian heritage and the joy of keeping our heritage alive in our families through stories and cooking. I loved talking to her about all those memories. You will be greatly missed but you have left an endearing legacy.

Verna was a very special woman in Alice and my life. She always had a smile on her face. She will be missed very much. Alice would call every week just to check on how she was doing.
