Steven Ernest Perron, age 74, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the Ball Hospice House with his sister by his side. Steve was born in Sault Ste. Marie on April 1, 1951, to Ernest and Elaine (Daniels) Perron.
Steve grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault Area High School with the Class of 1969. He went on to attend Ferris State College, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Following graduation, Steve began a long and successful career in retail, starting at JCPenney in Sault Ste. Marie before moving to Seattle, Washington. While in Seattle, he worked for JCPenney as well as Fred Meyer stores throughout the area.
In 1998, Steve returned home to Sault Ste. Marie and rejoined the team at JCPenney, where he worked until his retirement in 2017. When the Sault store announced its closure, Steve came out of retirement to help with the process, reflecting his strong work ethic and dedication to his colleagues.
Steve had a lifelong fascination with lake freighters and proudly considered himself a "Boat Nerd." He also had a deep love of aviation and could easily identify airlines by their logos alone. One of the highlights of his later years was fulfilling a bucket list wish: returning to Seattle one last time. In October 2024, Steve, his sister Rhonda, and his niece Staci traveled by Amtrak across the country, reuniting with friends and former coworkers and enjoying the beauty of what is Seattle.
Steve is survived by his sister, Rhonda Hoornstra; nieces, Kirstyn (Robert) Beaulieu, Staci (Chad) Palo; great-nephew, Evan (Betsy) Kyle of Marquette, Michigan; great nieces, Emily Wilson, Brynn Beaulieu, Iyla Beaulieu of Sault Ste. Marie; great-great nephew, River Dale Kyle of Marquette; uncle, Ron (Chris) Daniels; and special friend, Gail LaMothe of Texas; as well as numerous cousins.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Elaine; brother-in-law, Dale Hoornstra; paternal grandparents, Theophil and Arbutus Perron; maternal grandparents, Clifford and Ruth Daniels; special aunt, Fran Horka; good friend, Mary Ann Sanders; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Per Steve's wishes, no services will be held.
The family would like to thank Dr. Sardar and staff of the Oncology/Infusion Department, the volunteer drivers for the Road to Recovery, and the volunteers at the Ball Hospice House for the wonderful care Steve received. He enjoyed meeting you all.
A very special Thank You to Father Dominic Afrifa for visiting Steve every day while he was in hospice. Steve was so appreciative, and it helped him feel spiritually ready to leave this earthly life.
