It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Steven Edward Prato, who left us on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the age of 41. Born on October 4, 1984, in Salisbury, MD, Steven was a son of Kelley Lynn Callis and the late Anthony John Prato. He was a beloved son, father, brother, and friend to many. He spent his life in Delmar, DE, where he touched many lives with his warmth and kindness.
Steven graduated from Delmar High School with the class of 2003. He was known for his incredible work ethic, beginning his career at P&A Engineering before dedicating the last several years of his life as a crew leader for Wash Buggy in Harbeson. His professional accomplishments were only surpassed by his unwavering love for his children: Alexa, Sean, Liam, Sebastian, Lance, and Corbin. They were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.Steven will be remembered for his goofy sense of humor and his infectious love for life. Steven was an amazing cook and enjoyed sharing his creations with family and friends. He had a unique ability to bring joy to others, often singing and dancing to elicit laughter from those around him. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, he carried his team spirit with pride. His love for animals was evident, and he had been mourning the loss of his cherished companion, his dog Buster, who passed away six months prior.
Steven is survived by his daughter, Alexa Prato; sons, Sean Prato, Liam Avery, Sebastian Avery, Lance Prato, and Corbin Prato; mother, Kelley Lynn Callis and Stepfather Robert Callis; sister, Patricia "Trish" Jester (Steve); brother, Lee Bruce Stevenson (Kristen); and nieces and nephew, Maddison, Hayleigh, Rayvin, Ayden and Kinsley. His beloved grandmother Sandra Timmons and several aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his long time, loving companion, Danielle Kuhn; his friend and high school sweetheart, Katie Collingsworth; and his best friend for many years, Richard "Rick" Waters.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting friendships.Family and friends will gather to celebrate Steven's life and honor his memory at a later date. We invite all who knew him to join in this tribute to a man who made everyone feel like a friend and whose spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
