Steven "Steve" Schultz, age 60, of
Twin Valley, MN, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at HIA Heather's House in Fargo, ND, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with ALS.
Steven Raymond Schultz was born on November 1, 1965, in Port Clinton, OH, to Raymond and Connie (Hetrick) Schultz - who, that same morning, had been hauling soybeans to the elevator. He was baptized in St. Paul United Church of Christ in Oak Harbor, OH. His first haircut was in the barber's chair at 5 1/2 months old, just before his first trip to Minnesota. The Schultz family moved to Minnesota in the summer of 1966 and Steve became a big brother to twin sisters, Becky and Susie, in 1969. He was confirmed in Wild Rice Lutheran church, rural
Twin Valley, MN. He graduated from Twin Valley High School with the Class of 1984.
Hard work came naturally to Steve. He started at Circle E Farms at just 14 years old and continued for 13 years, earning the praise from his boss as "probably the best employee in the whole world." It was during those years that Steve discovered two lifelong loves: dedicated work and the open road behind the wheel of a semi. Steve went on to build a long, successful career as an owner-operator. Through his lease with Karriers Inc. of Grand Forks, ND, he often routed loads through Ohio so he could visit and lend a hand on his grandparents' farm.
In September 2020, Steve received his ALS diagnosis, bringing his trucking days to an end. He met the news the same way he lived his life: with grace, humility, and not a single complaint. Though his progression was slow, the disease eventually took its toll. On Tuesday, November 25, 2025-his grandmother Malinda's birthday-Steve was set free from his struggles.
Steve was a deeply devoted uncle to Tom, Katie, Justin, and Brandon. He encouraged them in their interests, shared hobbies like car racing, target shooting, watching old westerns, and riding ATVs, and made sure each had a well-stocked toolbox as they grew. He loved taking them on road trips, stirring up mischief, and sharing his unforgettable sense of humor and hard work ethic. Steve also remained a loyal supporter of the military throughout his life despite never having served in it himself.
Happy trails to you, Steve, until we meet again.
Steve is survived by his parents, Ray and Connie Schultz; sisters, Becky (Steven) Bollingberg and Susan (Richard) Ahrndt; nieces and nephews: Tom Ahrndt, Katie Ahrndt-Paulson, Justin Ahrndt, and Brandon Bollingberg; along with many extended family members. He was welcomed into heaven by his grandparents, Arnold and Malinda Schultz and Ira and Mildred Hetrick, and several aunts and uncles.
The family wishes to thank HIA Hospice for their wonderful care of Steve in his final weeks. Also thank you to the ALS Association for the loan of equipment and all their support. Memorials received will be given to these wonderful organizations.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 1:00 pm, with a visitation one hour before, at Wild Rice Lutheran Church rural
Twin Valley, MN. Burial will take place at Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery.
