Steven Harvey Schumacher, 69, of Kings Mills, OH passed away on March 21, 2023 of natural causes.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Frederick (Freddy) Joseph Schumacher, his mother Faith (Faye) Harvey Schumacher, and brother Richard Lane Schumacher.
Steve is survived by his brother Joe (Joan) Schumacher, his sister Christine (William) Cook, his nieces Kelly (Kirk) Johnson, Whitney (Jamie) Campbell, Nolan (Chris) Wojnicz, Joey (Jeremy) Martin, Tabitha Rooney, Megan (Alex) Scott, Faith Rooney, and nephew Steven Cook.
Steve was born August 15, 1953, and he grew up in Kennedy Heights. Steve graduated from Purcell High School.
Wherever Steve walked he left a notable impression, with his demeanor, his skills, and his determination to live his life, his way.
Steve’s intrinsic artistic talents followed him across the country. He documented his love of Nantucket’s natural beauty with photography, sketching, and carving of whale bone. In Colorado, he worked as a construction subcontractor and created custom mantels. Steve was “adopted” into the Lakota tribe in South Dakota and was utilized to document their history, carving white buffalo bones, resulting in a published book and a permanent exhibit in the Smithsonian Institute. Sadly, Steve was never credited for his dedication to this endeavor.
When Steve returned to Ohio, he honed his woodworking skills, completing countless projects, including custom furniture pieces, cabinetry, and architectural structures. Steve’s legacy will live on through his craftsmanship, which will continue to bring joy and beauty to the world for years to come.
In keeping with Steve’s wishes, Hodapp Funeral Homes facilitated the cremation of his remains, and his request for a celebration of life will be held on May 20, 2023. Details to be determined and will be available at this site.
