Steven S Scoffield

It is with great tenderness that we announce the passing of Steven S. Scoffield (affectionately known as “George” by loved ones and dear friends) on Friday October 11, 2024, at home in the loving arms of his sweetheart. His last moment was the tender touch of Diane. He had just celebrated his 89th birthday with family. We are indebted to the great care of the Active Hospice Team, specifically Ty, Robin, Jenny, and Ronda. 

Steve was born in Layton, Utah on September 27, 1935, to Seymour Barsby Scoffield and Edna Watt Stevenson. He learned to work hard at a very young age with his father on the farm and has never stopped looking for his next project to build, fix, remodel, or restore and improve whether it be a home, car, truck, motorcycle, RV, boat, tractor, etc. - anything to keep his mind sharp and hands busy. His projects are numerous, but one pride and joy is the sweetheart table he welded and finished for Diane by topping it with wood from the Osage Orange trees at their home. Steve had a keen eye and attention to detail noted in the chrome and lights on his vehicles, the wood finish in his homes, the careful iron welds, the shooting range targets, and care of animals. 

After graduating from Davis High, Steve attended Weber State and Utah State. His careers included farming, working at Hill AFB, selling building materials, operating an excavation company, and becoming a residential general contractor and property developer. At the age of 21 he remodeled what was the first LDS church in Kaysville into a beautiful home where he and his family resided for 37 years. 

Steve retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years in the Utah Air National Guard. During that time, he earned his Distinguished Pistol Shooting Badge with many awards. He was a true patriot and loved the American flag. Also, he enjoyed the sport of racquetball and proved to be quite competitive. 

A true-life highlight was singing in the Tabernacle Choir for seven years with trips to the New York World’s Fair, the Washington, DC Christmas Tree Lighting, President Johnson’s Inauguration, and many other events throughout the country. 

Several young people got their start in business from Steve, and they became quite successful. He also loved working on his ranch in Northern Utah where many fond family memories were built until a tragic motorcycle accident limited his ability. 

Steve had three children before marrying his eternal companion Diane Norton on May 25, 1978, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. 

Grandpa George is preceded in death by his parents, wife Claudia, daughter Cindy Lynn Scoffield, and grandson Aaron Brent Kerr. He is survived by his sweet wife Diane, daughter Sherrilee (Steven) Einfeldt, son Lance (Cherie) Scoffield, adopted daughter Keira Scoffield, (niece of Diane), eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Grandpa George loved each deeply and regrets that he did not tell them directly. He would often brag about each one and their accomplishments, but never in earshot or directly because he wanted them to continue striving to be better than he was. He always kept learning and stretching and wanted his posterity to keep the fires burning hot to improve. “No resting on their laurels.” 

His greatest love beyond the Savior Jesus Christ is his eternal companion and dear sweetheart Diane.
