Steven "Beamer" Craig Shoden of Virginia died tragically in a vehicle accident on Thursday, October 24th, 2024. Steven was born in Virginia, MN on April 6th, 1955, the son of John and Jane (Hendrickson) Shoden. He grew up in Virginia with his parents, four sisters and four brothers.
Beamer attended Virginia High School and later went on to Eveleth Vocational Technical school where he earned a degree in carpentry. He spent his career as a carpenter on the Iron Range. His immaculate work showed his skill, attention to detail and tidiness. Many of his projects can be seen in the homes of family and friends across the Range and will be appreciated for generations.
Beamer was a fantastic gardener and produced a yield far beyond expectations for the square footage he had to work with. He enjoyed attending Arrowhead Community Concerts and was a mainstay at many family birthday and holiday celebrations each year.
In the year 2000, he committed to a life of sobriety and become involved in AA, where he built many meaningful and lasting relationships. He was kind, giving and thoughtful, and always showed up with snack sized Hershey bars for the kids.
Beamer was incredibly generous and regularly gave to charitable organizations.
The Shoden family will be forever grateful for his role as caregiver to our beloved Mother Jane.
Steven is survived by his brothers Ron "Dixie" (Sandi) Shoden & Darrell Shoden; his sisters: Diane (Dan) Carlson, Pat Sleeman, Cheryl (Craig) Aluni, Debbie (Terry) Carpenter – all of Virginia, MN; fifteen nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews, his Silver Lake Dinner family, AA family and his Northern Club family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Shoden, of Virginia, MN; father, John Shoden, of Virginia, MN; brother Richard Shoden of Oakland, CA; brother John Shoden of Modesto, CA; brother-in-law Paul Sleeman of Virginia, MN; maternal grandparents, Arthur (Mabel) Hendrickson of Virginia, MN; paternal grandparents, John Shoden and Wilma Kovero, of Virginia, MN.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at Bauman-Cron Funeral Home Chapel in Virginia. The service will be followed by a celebration of life reception at Copper Nickel Restaurant at the Virginia Golf Course from Noon to 2pm, where all friends and family are welcome to attend.
