NISKAYUNA - Steven M. Slutsky, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at home.
Steve was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Henry Slutsky; his first wife, Linda (Frenzel) Slutsky; mother and father-in-law, Joan and Lloyd Prescott; and father-in-law Peter Campisi.
Steve is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Cindy (Campisi) Slutsky; his son, Jason (Cynthia) Slutsky; his daughter, Megan (Eric) Padelford; brother, Robert (Fern) Slutsky; and sister, Debbie Slutsky. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Caden, Rylan, and Sawyer Padelford, Jonah and Reid Slutsky, and Adam Boucher; as well as his niece, Lori Slutsky; and nephew, Joel Slutsky.
Steve was a lifelong resident of the Capital District. Growing up he was surrounded by his friends Jeff, Barry, David, Howie and Don. The Slutsky family house was always filled with laughter, much of which was attributable to Steve. His sister Debbie says that he could always make her laugh. Steve left home briefly to go to college in California after which he returned home to serve in the National Guard for two years.
Back in Albany, Steve met and soon married the first love of his life, Linda Frenzel, of Voorheesville who gave him two wonderful children, Jason and Megan. Linda was a wonderful mother until her passing in 1984.
Several years later he met the second love of his life and constant companion, Cindy. Cindy and Steve were inseparable and completely devoted to each other for the remainder of their time together.
After returning from college, Steve joined his father and brother in the family business, Schatz Stationery, working for many years as the VP of office and commercial products, helping it grow to a chain of stores known throughout the Northeast. He then worked for Your Office until opening his own company, Service Office Products, until it was acquired by Staples spending many more years before "retiring." After retirement he worked as a courier for Trustco and Capital Imaging until "retiring" again only a short time ago. As a courier, he loved being able to travel to so many locations and meeting so many new friends.
Steve's other great joy in life was watching his children, Jason and Megan, grow and become wonderful parents, giving him six grandsons. He loved partaking in their many accomplishments whether on the field with lacrosse, on the ice with hockey, on the stage playing music or in the classroom. All of the kids' accomplishments helped to keep Steve much younger than his age would suggest.
Steve was an avid fan of New York Yankees, attending several games over the years. He was also an all-around athlete. He golfed and bowled throughout his entire life, competing in many tournaments only stopping when his body told him that it was time to start taking it easy. To date, Steve has rolled the only 300 game in Slutsky family history.
Due to an inherent wealth of kindness and sincerity, Steve made friends easily. You had a friend for life in Steve. He was extremely supportive of his friends and family and would go the extra mile for them whenever needed. He leaves behind a legacy of love, enjoyment of life, and hard work touching innumerable friends along the way.
Those wishing to remember Steve are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Funeral services will be held graveside on Friday, June 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Temple Israel Cemetery, 1620 Western Ave., in Guilderland.
