Steven "Steve" Eugene Alberson, born on November 27, 1955, in Fayetteville, NC, to the late Eugene Milton Alberson and Lou Nelle Benge Alverson, passed away on September 29, 2025. Steve was a devoted Native American father and a loving husband, admired for his warm spirit and affection for his family and friends.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army, demonstrating dedication and commitment during his service. A previous member of Sandy Creek Presbyterian Church in Filmore, OK, Steve took pride in teaching Sunday School, sharing his knowledge and faith with others.
His love for reading was unparalleled, and he could often be found immersed in a good book or enjoying the nostalgic tunes of oldies music. The beauty of nature brought him joy, and he cherished visits to the mountains and the beach, where he found serenity and connection to the earth. His love also extended to his furry companions, including his beloved pet dogs, Bobo, who sadly passed away in May of 2025, Daisy, and Hercules.
Surviving Steve are his devoted wife of 26 years, Crystal Harrelson Alberson; his daughter, Stevie Claire Alberson (Eden); and stepson, John Barrett Carpenter (Thyra). He is also survived by three sisters, Nona Prevette (Tony), Sherri Moretz (Wayne), and Tanya Aikins, along with two brothers, David Shaver and Jeffrey Alberson (Michelle).
In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Shaver, and his stepmother, Yvonne Alberson.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service officiated by Rev. Mike Hillard at 3:00 PM. Both will take place at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him, and he will be profoundly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tri-County Animal Rescue, 3326 Al Hager Ln, Iron Station, NC 28080.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to A Touch By Angels and the VA Homebound Team for their care and concern over the years.
