Steven Robert Sugranis, 79, of Ranier, MN passed away at his home surrounded by love in the early morning of May 12, 2023.
Steven (Sig) R. Sugranis was born on March 29, 1944, in International Falls, MN, the son of Steve A. Sugranis and Mary (Sugranis) Loftis. He served in the United States Army in the 1960's, where he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas where during that time, he met his first wife, Clarissa.
Steve worked as a riverboat Chief Engineer and First Mate on the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers. He was full of many riverboat stories and was very proud of his time working on tugboats and barges. He traveled along the rivers for many years from the Twin Cities to the Gulf and back.
Steve loved gardening, the outdoors, nature, watching the deer in his yard, living on Rainy Lake, camping, being near the water, and had a great passion for the spiritual Native American culture and people. He was a kind, gentle man with a beautiful soul and a heart of gold. He enjoyed his quiet, humble life and loved his family and close friends very much. Steve was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all of us. He had many friends and family that loved him very much and will miss him dearly.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents Steve and Mary Sugranis; wife, Joan; brothers, Thomas (Tom) and James (Jimbo) Sugranis, brother-in-law, Laverne Denny; and nephew, Steve Denny.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Angela N. Sugranis; son, Steven J.O. Sugranis; granddaughter, Kaily N. Zaic; great-grandson, Skylar Zaic; sisters, MaryLou Denny, Barb (Ken) Ness, Diane (Dan) Blais; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 3:00 pm with military honors at Forest Hill Cemetery. A celebration of life with family and friends will immediately follow the service at Steve's home.
