Steven Tanner was born on April 25, 1957, to the late Albert and Norma (Decker) Tanner. He grew up in
Clio, Michigan, where he attended Clio High School.
At the age of 22, he became a father for the first time welcoming three children he was extremely proud of and whom he loved dearly.
On October 16, 1990, Steve married the love of his life, Melinda "Mindy" Griffin. Together they built a life filled with love, faith, and adventure. He owned and operated Steven A. Tanner Trucking for many years, providing for his family with hard work and dedication. Steve was part of the original core group that helped launch The Crossing of Hopkinsville in November 2005. He had a true servant's heart and a gift for sharing Jesus in ways that were genuine and easy to understand. One of his favorite sayings during those early years was, "I wouldn't be where I am if I hadn't been where I was."
A talented musician, Steve loved playing guitar and singing on the church praise team and during gatherings with friends and family. Steve passed his talent and love for music to his grandchildren. He was also an avid motorcycle rider who found joy in traveling across the country on his Harley. Known for his handy skills, Steve could fix just about anything. More than that, he was a man who never met a stranger; always quick to strike up a conversation, especially in small-town diners he loved to visit. Almost always, he could be heard sharing stories of his faith and family most of which were woven around his grandchildren, whom he loved with all his heart. Steve will be remembered for his faith, kindness, and the way he lived life with open arms and an open heart- in his boots & cowboy hat.
