Steven Daniel (Steve) Vines, age 72, went to be with his Lord March 12 in El Paso, TX, after a long debilitating illness. He was the fourth child born to James W. (Jay) and Cynthia Rose Vines in Hereford, TX, February 26, 1953.
At an early age, Steve knew he wanted to join the military and/or go into law enforcement. Shortly after turning 21, he became a Deputy Sheriff. He held several positions with various agencies over the years and retired from the US Border Patrol after 35 years in law enforcement.
While working as a city police officer in Dimmitt, TX, he met the love of his life, Jeri. They married on January 9, 1982. Steve's career led them to seven long-distance moves in four different states before they settled in El Paso in 2006. Soon after, they became active members at University Presbyterian Church. Steve served several years as an Elder.
It is impossible to describe what Steve meant to his family, friends, and co-workers. Based on comments from others, it is said that he loved the Lord, life, family, and friends. He was always smiling, filled with life and spunk. He was strong, truthful, faithful, and gracious. He had a warrior spirit but was kind, compassionate and humble. He will be missed by many. Steve was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Jeri Vines; brother, James W. (Jim) Vines, Jr.; sister, Priscilla Vines Teeas; brother, David M. Vines; and several nieces and nephews.
Steve's life will be celebrated at University Presbyterian Church, 244 N Resler, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 2:00 PM. Immediately following the service, a Blessing, Border Patrol Honor Guard service and reception will be held at Anthony Country Club, 2100 W O'Hara Rd, Anthony, NM.
Memorial contributions can be made to the University Presbyterian Church for Building and Grounds or Outreach or charity of choice.
