Steven R. Waskiewicz

Southbridge: Steven Ralph Waskiewicz, 94, formerly of Dresser St., passed away on Saturday, Nov. 22nd, in the Webster Manor Nursing Home, Webster, after a long illness.

Steven's wife of 55 years, Carol P. (Maloney) Waskiewicz, passed away in 2016.

Steven was preceded by his brothers, Edward, Richard and his sister, Josephine and her husband Stanley Choinski and his Nephew, Steven Choinski.

Steven leaves his nephew, Stanley Choinski and his wife Lesley; his brother-in-law, George Maloney his wife Lourdes and their daughter Laura Perry and her husband John Perry all of New York. Steven also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Steven was born in Clinton the son of the late Walenty and Josephine (Kaczowka) Waskiewicz in 1931. Steven grew up in Southbridge and graduated from Cole Trade High School in Southbridge in sheet metal fabrication. Steven was an outstanding athlete in high school baseball and basketball earning several awards.

After his graduation in 1950 Steven joined the US Navy and was assigned to the Navy's aircraft carrier "Boxer" and served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Steven worked as a sheet metal fabricator for Southbridge Sheet Metal in Southbridge for 5 years, Arduini Sheet Metal in Worcester for 18 years and Merchants Sheet Metal in Auburn for 13 years before retiring many years ago. Steven was an active member of both Notre Dame Parish and St. Mary's Parish and later St. John Paul II Parish in Southbridge.

Steven and his wife Carol loved to square dance and were active with several groups in the area. Steven also enjoyed walking his many dogs over the years at Westville Dam and his family is grateful to the many people who befriended him on his days there.

A graveside service for Steven will be held on Friday, Dec. 5th, at 12:00pm in St. Mary's Cemetery, Charlton St., Southbridge. There are no calling hours.

The Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, is directing arrangements.
