Steven Robert Wurm, 73, passed away peacefully after a long, difficult battle with both Frontotemporal and Lewy Body Dementias on the evening of Friday, November 1, 2024. Steve was surrounded by his wife and daughters, lifting him in prayers, as he peacefully went home to be with his Maker.
Steve was born on August 9, 1951 in Traverse City, MI to Robert and Rena Wurm. The oldest of three boys, Steve was a proud alum of St. Francis High School and then went on to join the Army, serving his country with honor. After the Army, Steve started working at Peninsula Asphalt and then spent 19 years at Elmer’s, where he made many close friendships. In 1998, Steve started his own company, SRW Contracting and Paving, and was very proud of the organization and all who worked there. Although Steve and Brenda spent the last couple years of his life out of state, Traverse City was always his home.
Steve was a dedicated Catholic, and lifelong member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Steve married his sweetheart Brenda in 1991 and the couple raised two daughters, Rhiannon and Olivia. Steve enjoyed baseball (Go Tigers!), camping, hunting, family road trips, outdoor projects, volunteering at his daughters’ school events, and the family dog, Sophie. From Alabama and Charlie Daniels, to Celine Dion, Steve truly loved listening to music, especially country music with a good fiddle!
Steve was preceded in death by his father Robert, mother Rena, brother Gregory, and beloved dogs, Mooch and Sophie. Steve is survived by his wife Brenda, daughters Rhiannon (Huseyin) Ülgen and Olivia (Oliver) Howe, grandsons Parker Bunek and Carter Howe, brother Randy, and nephew Grant.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Steve in the spring of 2025 at St. Francis Catholic Church, details to follow. Interment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, in Traverse City, Michigan.
Memorial donations can be made in Steve’s honor to: The Association of Frontotemporal Degeneration (https://www.theaftd.org/) or Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools (https://gtacs.org/giving/)
