Steven Charles Zamowski

Steven C. Zamowski, 68, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 28, 2025 with his wife, children, and daughter-in-law by his side after a long battle with cancer. Born August 31, 1956, the son of Charles and Phyllis (Fitzemeier) Zamowski. Steven married Barbara Hawes on May 28, 1994.

He worked construction all of his life and was a Logger for a period of time. Steven loved woodworking, fishing, playing in his "sandbox" (his land) with his toys (skidder and backhoe), gardening and was a big supporter of the NRA. He loved animals, especially his dogs, and feeding the birds. Steven loved traveling, good food, and enjoyed spending time with his family and good friends. He was passionate about his 4th of July parties and put on a firework show that rivaled most small cities. Steven was also passionate about taking care of his pond and was very proud of his waterfall he built with his sons Jon and Ty. He helped so many along the way with no expectation of anything in return. To his family and many others, he was their real-life Superman.

Survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Cassandra (Ty) Zamowski Champlin and Jon (Katie Grafer) Hawes; eight grandchildren; one brother; two sisters, his two dogs; and many extended family members. The family would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice Team, Dr. Mardini and his team at the Cancer Center, Chaplain Nancy Freeman, and their family and friends who have been by their side during his long battle on his journey home. You gave them comfort during this time your presence helped to lighten their burden.

Perhaps you sent a lovely card, or sat quietly in a chair.

Perhaps you sent those beautiful flowers, that we saw sitting there.

Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, as any friend could say.

Perhaps you were not there at all, just thought of us that day.

Whatever you did to console our hearts we thank you so much for whatever part.
