Obituary published on Legacy.com by Robinson Funeral Home, Inc. - Littleton on Dec. 19, 2024.
Mr. Stewart Kenneth Sutton, son of the late Zebulon Vance Sutton and Ida Pearl Yancy Sutton, was born in Vaughan, North Carolina, on December 28, 1930. He transitioned from this earthly life on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at his home in Providence, Rhode Island, with his devoted sons by his side.
Stewart obtained his formal education in the Warren County Public School System and later received an Associate Degree in Arts, while also being employed in his long-time trucking career. Early in life, he served is country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 until 1955. Like many soldiers who came back home safely, very few words were spoken of the Korean War, known as, "The Forgotten War".
Stewart was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Emma Jean Scott, who preceded him in death on April 10, 2018. God blessed this union with two sons, Kenneth and Lloyd Vance. Stewart was a family man through and through. He would give whatever he could of himself to make sure that everyone else was ok. He was loving and loyal, yet, stern when he needed to be.
Stewart was a dedicated truck driver with Allied Van Lines for over thirty years, and his CB radio handle was "Stew Beef". He earned various safety driver awards and recognitions while at the company. Clients would rave about how he and his team would go over and beyond to deliver fast and exceptional service. He was also a map connoisseur. There was no gps and no cell phones, but he could get you where you needed to be using all the back roads, avoiding traffic lights and state police! If you got lost, it was not his directions that put a wrench in your trip! Whether on the highways, freeways, or back roads, Stewart always found his way home. Home, back to his loved ones.
Stewart was an avid fan of wrestling and football and enjoyed going out for car rides in his free time. He loved music! Nodding his head and snapping his fingers to the beat were his "Go-to" moves, but he was no stranger to also using his eating utensils and plate, if needed, to tap to the beat! His sons would say, "That's Dad's way of requesting more food".
Although Stewart was not at church every Sunday, he was a man who revered and loved the Lord and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. One of his favorite songs was "Amazing Grace". He often remarked on how well his brother, Harry, could "Nail it" on the harmonica!
In addition to his parents and wife, Stewart was preceded in death by one daughter, Evelyn Powell; six brothers: Milton Earl, Zeb McKinley, James, Clemmon, Robert, Walter and Harry; one sister, Mattie Fletcher; other loved ones, and also friends he had acquired over the miles and through the years.
Those left to cherish the many memories of his life are his sons, Kenneth and Lloyd Vance, whom he loved and trusted to care for him; his daughters and son, Vernice, Mattie (Michael), Shelia, Tammy, and Stewart, who all held a special part in his heart; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his dearest brother, Steve Bernard Sutton (Elizabeth); his loving nieces and nephews whom he adored; his cousins and a multitude of friends.
A viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at Robinson Funeral Home, 215 US Highway 158,
