Stuart Jay Danoff
Stuart Jay Danoff died peacefully surrounded by family on December 5, 2024. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Joseph and Sadye (Wolf) Danoff on April 20, 1931. Stuart graduated from James Madison High School, Harvard College, and New York University School of Medicine. His pediatric residency at Bellevue Hospital began a five-decade career devoted to caring for infants and children.
Following Stuart's service as Army Captain at Walter Reed Medical Center, he became a beloved and respected pediatrician in Stamford, CT. He served as Chief of Pediatrics at Stamford Hospital, on the Board of the Stamford Child Guidance Center, and Chairman of the Committee on Pediatric Practice for the Connecticut American Academy of Pediatrics.
At the age of 50, Stuart returned to specialized training in neonatology at Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons. Following his fellowship, he became Chief of Neonatology at Norwalk Hospital where he was deeply dedicated to his tiny patients and their families.
Stuart was an award-winning artist in multiple juried art shows. He created a prolific collection of watercolors, etchings, pen and ink drawings, and digital art. One of his most enjoyable projects was the life-sized giraffe he designed for Stamford's annual juried exhibit, Art in Public Places which was selected for the 2003 outdoor sculpture exhibit, Stamford Safari. For many years, Stuart also served as President of the Bartlett Arboretum which flourished under his leadership. Stuart was a Silver Life Master in Duplicate Bridge. Additionally, he enjoyed photography, gardening, and travel.
Stuart's greatest joy was spending time with his family. He is survived by Joan, his beloved wife of 70 years, his dear children Nancy (Warren), Susan (Daniel) and William (Ami), and his cherished grandchildren Alexandra (Vai), Stephen, Claire (Brian), Michael, William, Amelia, Andrew and Alexander. Stuart's family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided by Precious Bongiwe and the Waterstone health care team.
Funeral services will take place at Temple Sinai, 458 Lakeside Drive, Stamford, CT at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024. Shiva will be held at the Waterstone, 215 High Ridge Road, Stamford, CT on Monday, December 9 and Tuesday, December 10 from 2:30-6:00 p.m.
