Mary Sue Stevenson Cape, 94, of Abbeville, wife of the late Paul ‘Eddie’ Cape, Sr., died Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at her daughter’s home. She was born in Abbeville to the late James T. Stevenson, Sr. and Annie Bell Little Stevenson.
Sue retired as a vending attendant at the Sharon and Abbeville Plants. She was a dedicated member of South Side Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School class where her faith was a guiding light in her life. Her greatest joy was, without a doubt, the time spent with her family. Sue will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Paul Edward Cape, Jr and Thomas Eugene ‘Gene’ Cape; two sisters, Betty Hilburn and Margaret Ashley; three brothers, William Oscar ‘Brother’ Stevenson, William A. ‘Billy’ Stevenson and Jimmy Stevenson; and two grandchildren, Jeffery Cape and Tyler McMurtury.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Anne Cape Ashley and her husband, Ricky of Abbeville, SC; sister, Becky Steifle of Greenville, SC; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and two daughters-in-law, Kay Cape and Donna Cape, both of Abbeville.
The family will receive friends 1:00PM – 2:00PM, Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 2:30PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joel Bradberry officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
