Sue Danielson, 78, Minot, ND, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024, in her son's home in Minot.
Sue Ellen Medalen was born September 17, 1945, the daughter of John and Ruth (Engebrit) Medalen, in Rolette, North Dakota. The youngest of eight girls, Suzie was raised on the family farm at Willow City. She graduated from Willow City High School.
Following high school, she attended Bernel Hairstyling College in Minot. She has renewed her Hairdressers License every year since 1965.
On November 29, 1969, Suzie married her one and only love, Gary Danielson, in Willow City. In 1975 they were blessed with a son. Sue always wished she had a big brother so when she got a son that was even better. Her son, Spencer, was her pride and joy from day one.
Gary passed away August 6, 2011. They spent many summers together at Lake Metigoshe and loved it. Sue continued to spend her summers at the cabin planting the flowers she liked and mowing those straight lines in the grass as long as she could. She liked the quiet mornings on the lake so she would take her coffee down to the dock and sit and listen for the loons. The evenings were for sitting on the deck looking at her lights, which she would string everywhere or to make a bonfire and relax after a busy day. She didn't sit much as there was always something to do.
Her love for animals came from growing up on a farm. She always fed the birds and rabbits. She would wrap up kennels in case stray cats were around. She would have heated water dishes, food, and blankets so they could be warm. She rescued six kitties one fall from her neighbor's window well and found homes for them all. Others rescued would be taken to the animal shelter, as she knew they would be safe and get a forever home.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Minot.
Her loving family includes: son, Spencer; sisters, Vonnie Schoenborn, Blenda Geiszler, and Lylis Schoenborn; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 42 years, Gary; sisters, Joanne Rockvoy, Lynne Dreyer, Betty Gauthier, Judy Johnson; and nephews, Chad Schoenborn and Dennis Rockvoy.
Prayer Service: Friday, July 12, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
Visitation: One hour prior to the prayer service.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to your local animal shelter, the ND Veterans Cemetery, or charity of your choice.

I never met Sue but did meet several of her sisters. Her dad was a first cousin to my dad, Harold Medalen. My tante Mari in Eggedal Norway had a picture of those 8 Medalen sisters in her guest room. L
Condolences to Sue's family.
