Sue Ella Griffith was born on August 20, 1935, in Lawrence County, Mississippi to Jessie and Evie Polk Williamson. A lifelong resident of Jefferson Davis County, Mrs. Griffith attended Oakvale School and, after its closure, Prentiss High School, where she also played basketball. She would go on to marry the love of her life, Joe Ben Griffith, and the happy couple raised 3 daughters. It was also to this union that several grandchildren and great grandchildren would be added, along with precious memories that each family member will treasure for generations to come. Mrs. Griffith was a hard worker all of her life. She was employed for many years as a seamstress in the Edward Hyman garment factory in Prentiss, as well as the Kellwood garment factory in Monticello.
She loved her family immensely and there was nothing she enjoyed more than everyone gathering to her home to celebrate holidays where joy was abundant and there was no shortage of laughter. Her family also relates that Mrs. Griffith was a fabulous cook and they always looked forward to her chicken and dumplings at every family engagement. In addition, she also received a great deal of pleasure from keeping a beautiful yard, complete with flowers of every kind, as well as quilting. Mrs. Griffith was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griffith is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ben Griffith; her daughter, Karen Creel; a sister, Joyce Price and her brothers, Harold Williamson and Carroll Williamson.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughters, Brenda (Lowrey) Saulters of Bassfield, Ann (Melvin) Hollingsworth of Prentiss; her son-in-law, Frank Creel of Sumrall; her grandchildren, Kevin Saulters, Kathryn Bass, Brooke Edwards, Kyla Creel, Samantha Baughman and 6 great-grandchildren.
