Sue A. Lawall, 80, passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Ernistine M Raclin House in Mishawaka. Her journey of 80 vibrant years concluded in the very place it began, full of memories and marked by significant accomplishments. Sue was born on March 21, 1944, in Mishawaka to Lewis F and Dorothy (Lowery) Sawyer. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Brad Lawall and a sister, Linda Canerecci.
On August 20, 1966, in East United Methodist Church in Mishawaka, she married George Lawall; he preceded her in death on January 6, 2019.
A devoted mother, Sue leaves behind her cherished daughter, Kelley Lawall and a brother, Tom Sawyer of Dallas, TX.
Sue attended Purdue University; she often said it was where she learned to think. She earned a bachelor's in liberal arts, and a Master's in European history. Purdue was her second love, second to only the love she had for her two children.
The family moved to Denver in the mid 70's. Sue suffered a catastrophic stroke following a routine surgery. The stroke left her without the ability to walk, speak or write. The experience exemplified Sue's dedication to overcoming life's most difficult of circumstances. After recovering from her stroke, Sue discovered her love of the Law. She went back to college and earned a paralegal degree. She found a career he loved at the St. Joseph County Prosecutors Office. She developed a reputation at the office for being a legal guru. Sue was known for her masterful abilities in Legal research. She had a never-ending pursuit of Justice and Truth while at the Prosecutors office her job responsibilities were utilized in all homicides that occurred in St. Joseph County.
Sue's favorite time of year was Christmas. She loved making Santa's and listening to Josh Groban. She hosted many holiday gatherings. The past six years what Sue enjoyed most, was going to Doc Pierces and Ritters Frozen Custard with her daughter.
Sue A Lawall lived fully, served diligently, and was loved dearly; her presence will be profoundly missed yet her influence enduringly felt.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, Mishawaka. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home at 3 p.m.
If you would like to make donations in memory of Sue, the family askes that they be made to the Center for Hospice.
