Sue McQuiston Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home - Macon on Mar. 9, 2026.
Deleta Sue McQuiston, 77, of Macon, MO, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO, surrounded by her family.

Sue was born on November 21, 1948, in Brookfield, MO, the daughter of Lavon and Reita (Langwell) McQuiston. Deleta Sue McQuiston, also lovingly known as Grandma Sweetie, is a lover of Jesus, her family, especially when we are all together, chickens, beautiful flowers, and cooking her specialty of fried potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and slaw for any family or church gathering.

She is so dearly loved by her siblings, friends, children, grandchildren, a new great-granddaughter, and so many family members. We will all miss her morning phone calls like crazy!

If you were ever looking for Sue, you know she didn't enjoy sitting still, so she could usually be found taking care of her yard, at church, or on any type of wild adventure in the great outdoors. She will be missed by so many, but we all have peace knowing she's hanging out with Jesus- where she's always longed to be.

Sue is survived by three children, Misti Gepford (Shannon) of Columbia, MO, Breene McQuitty (Cheryl) of Macon and Jonathan Clements (Stephanie) of Nashville, TN, one daughter-in-law, Sarah Clements of Hannibal, MO, grandchildren, Alyxandra, Madalyn (Tyler), Ryenne, Timothy Gage, Jace, Grace, Abigail (Brady), Jacob, Mason, Xander, Chessa, Miles, one great-granddaughter, Cooper Kate, one brother, Darrell McQuiston (Pat), two sisters, Karen Stubbs (Rick) and Glenda Bunton, and many cherished nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Timothy Syferd and Joshua Clements, one sister, Scarlett Bunton, and one brother-in-law, Richard Bunton.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the United Trinity Church in Macon, with Rev. Mike Birdsong officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00, prior to the service, at the church. The family suggests memorials be made to the United Trinity Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon.

Yesterday

Sue & I were like sisters for years.
Shared many ups & downs together!
When twin boys born, I took care of Johnathan...& she took care of Joshua..until she got the hang of handling both! My daughter middle name, Suzanne...after my best friend Sue! Send my sympathy to her children, family. She's on adventures with God now! Am sure she's keeping Him busy!
