Mrs. Sue Nance, age 85 of Jacksboro, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Jacksboro and for the last several years has served as a 4th District Campbell County Commissioner. Sue dedicated her career to public service, holding various roles including being a member of Tennessee’s inaugural class of driver examiners, positions within the Department of Human Services, including serving as Regional Director of Assessment Care and Coordination Teams. In later years, she worked alongside her husband, Don Nance, in the Campbell County Clerk's office and was employed with Campbell County EMS prior to her retirement. Sue valued higher education, earning two master’s Degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Sue deeply cherished her family and loved for the family to gather around the table for Sunday dinner. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was also an ardent University of Tennessee sports fan and proudly supported several local community causes.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Don L. Nance, parents, Charles Lee and Martha Sue (Parrott) Silcox, and brother, James Robert Silcox.
She is survived by her son, Derick Nance and wife, Debbi; daughter, Erica Simpson and husband, Tony; grandchildren, Kolby Nance and wife, Meggie, Ethan Simpson and wife, Katy, and Morgan Simpson; great-grandchildren, Siler Nance, Ellie Nance, and Lennon Simpson; sisters, Margaret Hawkins and Mary Arden Wright; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Jacksboro (409 Main St., Jacksboro, Tennessee). Funeral Services will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Bill Arbo officiating. Family and friends will meet on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Walters Funeral Home and proceed to Cumberland View Cemetery for 11:00 AM Graveside Services and Interment.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to: First Baptist Church of Jacksboro Building Fund, PO Box 220, Jacksboro, TN 37757.
