Sue Nichols Obituary

Mrs. Nichols, daughter of the late Oben Hale Ledford and Georgia Lucille Crisp Ledford, was born July 15, 1938 in Decatur, Tennessee. She was a longtime member of Bayside Baptist Church where she served in many capacities to include both teaching Sunday School and Children's Church. Mrs. Nichols also worked many years with her husband in Christ Chapel Missions. During her working career, she worked at Lawrence-Doster Lincoln-Mercury and also Provident Insurance until her retirement. Mrs. Nichols loved gardening and traveling to the mountains. She looked forward to taking church retreat trips and traveling different places with her sisters. While at home, Mrs. Nichols enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel Music, sewing/crocheting, and cooking meals for family and friends. Most of all, she looked forward to spending quality time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family remembers her as a lady who always helped others.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oran Nichols, Jr., and two brothers, Sam Ledford and Carl "Bud" Ledford.
Mrs. Nichols is survived by one daughter, Tammie Nichols (Chuck) Jeffery; two sons, Bruce (Connie) Nichols and Ray Nichols; two sisters, Diane Lankford and Doris (Raymond) Maynor; four grandchildren, Hayden Nichols, Shelby Nichols, Tabitha (Austin) Ellis, and Chase (Madison) Jeffery; four great-grandchildren, Kyler Coulter, Knox Ellis, Raylan Jeffery, and Jed Jeffery; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled at Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel, 443 Boynton Drive, Ringgold, Georgia on Saturday, October 19, 2024, 12 noon with Reverend Glenn Ferguson and Reverend Grady Cooper officiating. Interment will follow at Woodstation Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 18, 2024 from 5-8 p.m.

I remember, some years ago, sharing time with Sue after our weekly Prayer Meeting Services while Sue was waiting for her husband who was in Choir practice and I was waiting for my great-granddaughters to finish their AWANAS meetings at Bayside Baptist Church. These were special times that we could share what we were involved with over the years and our life experiences. She was a very special lady and she gave so much of her time and love to those she was so very close to. She also was a member of the same Small Group Class that I am a member of at Bayside, the Faith-Joy Class, and I visited her several times while she was a patient at Life Care of Collegedale, Collegedale, TN.

A couple of years ago, I went with her sister Diane to visit Sue and her husband in their assisted living home. We had a good meal together and then went to their room to visit more. It was a spacious and pretty room that had a comfortable sofa. We all got cozy because the fashion show was about to begin. Diane loved to pick up clothes for Sue and had brought several outfits for her to try on. Sue was such a lovely lady and seemed to make all of the outfits look spectacular. Her husband would rave about each one as much as we girls. It was so much fun! I will always remember this happy time with Sue and my sweet friend Diane Lankford.
