Mrs. Sue Bevill Smith, age 91 of Boaz, Alabama, died on Monday, December 25, 2023, at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at two o’clock pm, Thursday, December 28, 2023, at the McRae Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Tommy Turner will officiate with Eulogies by Robert C. Smith, III and Bart Smith. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery. A visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2023, from noon until service time at the funeral home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Alabama on March 19, 1932, to Willie E. and Ludie Caston Bevill. She first taught Business Office Education to high schoolers before opening a private preschool and kindergarten, “Wee Wisdom”, in her home for 17 years. She then became the founding Director of First Baptist Church Boaz weekday preschool, “Shepherd’s Place”, continuing for 14 years until her retirement at 75.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her Sons: Bobby & Laura Smith of Georgia, Bart & Julie Smith of Trussville, Daughter: Linda & Tommy Turner of Boaz, Grandchildren: Darby & Patrick Phillips, Moriah & Chris Earnest, Caston & Caryn Smith, Seth & Elizabeth McGee, Aubrey & Christopher Pierson, Hannah & Zane Zettler, and Alex & Megan Smith, Great Grandchildren: Hueston Earnest, Judson Phillips, Joseph McGee, Emma Gail Earnest, Grayson Phillips, Samuel McGee, Blakely Smith, Zannah Zettler, Charli Jo Pierson, Madison Smith, Zailor Zettler, Turner Pierson, Everett Smith, and Zoelle Zettler, Sister: Hazel Jones, Sisters-in-Law: Doris Bevill and Glenda Sue Smith. She was preceded in death by her Parents: Willie & Ludie Bevill, Husband: Robert C. Smith, Jr.
Pallbearers will be Caston Smith, Seth McGee, Alex Smith, Chris Earnest, Christopher Pierson, Patrick Phillips, and Zane Zettler. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Morton and Kenneth Ellis.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to First Baptist Church’s Weekday Preschool, Shepherd’s Place, P.O. Box 337, Boaz, AL 35957 or to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, 408 Martling Road, Albertville, AL 35951.
