Martha Sue Kennamer Wright, 93, passed away Tuesday, January 13th, 2026 from complications following a heart attack.

She was born in 1932 in Woodville, AL where she met and married James Wright following his wartime service in the Pacific. They moved to Chattanooga early 50s when the DuPont Nylon plant opened. Later, when they were starting a family, she worked as an auditor at JC Penny.

She was a long-time faithful member at the Red Bank Church of Christ. She was affectionately known as the "Bread Lady" or the "Coconut Pie Lady" in the Ladies' Bible Class.

Following retirement, James and Sue loved to travel and see the world. On her refrigerator, are souvenir magnets of the Eiffel Tower, Yosemite, Big Ben and almost every state. Sue's Cast Iron Skillet Apple Pie was featured on the cover of Southern Living. Following James' passing, she remained busy as a volunteer at Northside Neighborhood House and CHI Memorial Northpark's GI Lab. Her neighbors always enjoyed her flowers scattered around her well-kept yard.

She was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate of 77 years, James Z. Wright.

Survivors include daughter, Patti Unnuh (David) of Chattanooga; son, Doug Wright (Sue) of Hixson; two grandsons and two granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and an extended church family. She is also survived by her brother, Doss Kennamer of Sheffield, AL.

Visitation followed by funeral services will be held at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace on Monday, January 19th at 1:00 PM with the service at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Sue requested that memorial gifts be made to Red Bank Church of Christ, 3600 Dayton Blvd. or the church or charity of your choice.
