P. Sugar Smith was born October 11, 1953 to the union of Reverend George Smith and Penola Washington Smith of New Castle, Alabama.
Sugar was the fifth of six children: Beulah, George Jr. John, Rose and Willie. Sugar accepted Christ at a young age and she kept her relationship with the Most High faithfully. She was a member of The House of God. Sugar who was lovingly called by family and friends and would correct you if you called her anything else. Sugar was a kind spirit with a beautiful smile that would light up every room she walked in. Sugar loved to dress, she was a true fashionista. She wore all kinds of eloquent styles that would demand a compliment. Sugar worked at the Hamilton County Public Defender's office for over 30 years. She knew a number of people and lots of people knew her. While employed and raising two sons, Demetrius and Antonio, Sugar went to college and obtained her, Bachelor’s and her Master's degree along with several certifications. Which was a great accomplishment for a single mother.
Sugar was preceded in death by her parents, George and Penola Smith; son, Demetrius, sisters, Beulah and Rose; brothers, Willie and John and grandson, Sha'kel. Sugar leaves behind cherished memories with her son, Antonio (Candace); 1 brother, George Jr.; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 15 nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends
