Sula Joyce “Joy” Bayliss Mosely ,born in Dermott, Arkansas on February 12, 1949, to Elizabeth “Sis” and Mercer “Flea” Bayliss. Joy grew up in McGehee with her sisters Cholista, Babs, and Kim. She graduated as Salutatorian from McGehee High School in 1967. Playing the alto clarinet and performing as a majorette, she was a proud member of the McGehee High School Marching Band. Joy graduated from Henderson State College in 1972, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She became a dedicated educator, teaching elementary school for 28 years in Portland, Clinton, Blytheville, Bryant, Canton, and Malvern. Joy was also a devoted mother to Chris, Heather, and Win. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her close friends and doting on her grandchildren who knew her as “Bug.”
Joy passed away on August 21, 2024, and was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth and father Mercer. Joy is survived by her sisters Cholista (Butch) Price of Cabot, Babs (Harold) Hardwick of Hot Springs, and Kim (Forrest) Cheek of Heber Springs; children Chris (Karen) Moseley of Forney, Texas, Heather (Jake) Shoemake of Centerton, and Win (Brandy) Moseley of Millington, Tennessee; grandchildren Josh and Austin Jones and Bess Moseley; step- grandchildren Hayden Shoemake, Calup Hedger, and Camden LaCotts; and beloved feline companion Layla.
Joy loved her family and friends endlessly and intentionally. Her warmth and grace will be missed and remembered.
A memorial service to honor her life is being planned for sometime in October. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Joy’s memory to the American Heart Association or the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
