Susan E. Buckel

DOVER – Susan E. Buckel, 75, of Dover, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at SpiriTrust Lutheran following an extended illness. Susan was born July 7, 1950 at York Hospital, the daughter of the late William and June (Brown) Buckel. She graduated from Penn State University and taught first grade for over thirty years, retiring from the Dover Area School District on June 11, 2003. She was the last of her family.

Susan had a variety of interests, especially music and playing the piano. She enjoyed cooking, playing games involving memory, entertaining, photography and watching British comedies. An avid reader, she also had a large collection of books, including a significant collection of children's literature. Susan was a talented artist as well.

Her great joy was collecting dishes. She was very fond of cats and wild animals, especially foxes and birds (even groundhogs).

Susan liked watching the night sky and identifying things her grandfather had taught her.

A special note of thanks to the staff at SpiriTrust Lutheran for the devoted care they gave Susan.

Following cremation, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Susan's memorial service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at Emig Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Inc., 47 N. Queen St., Dover. Burial will take place privately in Red Run Cemetery, East Berlin. Officiating will be the Rev. Bonnie J. Whittier, pastor of Christ U.C.C. in Jefferson.
