Obituary of Susan J Cook
Susan ("Susie") Cook died November 12, 2024.
Susie was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 1, 1945 to Dr. Samuel Elgart and Sally Glueck Elgart. Sam passed away when Susie was very young. Her mother remarried and she was adopted by Dr. Abe Brown.
Susie graduated from Walnut Hills High School and then attended the University of Michigan where she met her future husband, Julian Cook. Susie graduated with a degree in Education and then pursued a career as a master teacher for almost 40 years, the last thirteen at Grayland Country Day School in Denver.
After they were married and Julian studied for the rabbinate, achieving ordination, she moved with him to Indiana, South Florida, Michigan, New York and finally to Denver. Along the way, they had three children: Alan, Steven and Emily. Alan is now a rabbi as well, married to Rabbi Jody Riches Cook, serving Sinai Temple in Champaign, Illinois. Steven is an award-winning restauranteur and cookbook author in Philadelphia, married to Shira Rudavsky. Emily earned her doctorate in Jewish Education at the Jewish Theological Seminary and is now a Jewish Day School principal in Philadelphia. Susie and Julian have seven grandchildren: Gabe, Leo, Sally, Orli, Eva, Danny and Eden Cook.
Susie was a wonderful wife, a terrific mother, a superb teacher and a great friend. She will be greatly missed.
Service will be held at Temple Emanuel on Thursday, 11/14 at 1pm. Service will be live streamed via Feldman Mortuary's YouTube channel. Interment to follow at Emanuel Cemetery.
Contributions suggested to Temple Emanuel, Jewish Family Service, ADL or Hillel of Colorado.

Susie will be forever remembered as "sunshine."
She brought her natural enthusiasm to everything
she acccomplished. Our world needs more human beings like Susie.
With a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes, she always made
her numerous" villages" feel right "at home!"
Always with love,
Marlin Warner Feldman

Mrs. Cook was my third grade teacher, I´m now finishing up college, and I am so deeply saddened by this news. She was such a wonderful teacher and I will never forget how she instilled in me a love of learning, imagination, and play. Whenever we would go on field trips she would encourage us to sing on the bus, and that was always my favorite thing. Songs like "On Top of Spaghetti" (a parody of on top of old Smokey) "The Telephone Song" and "Second Story Window". She was a wonderful teacher and had a major impact on mine and many of my classmates´ lives. She is and will be dearly missed.

To Rabbi Cook and Susie's family: I will always remember Susie with great fondness. She was such a happy spirit! At Graland, she always made Harvey and I, and Natalie, feel welcome and loved in a very special way. She went out of her way to step over to us and say hello every time we came for an event or a visit. She was a bright, sparkling light to the children at school. To me, as a mom who was sometimes stressed because I was always running late to everything, she was the friendliest, most reassuring presence! We will all miss her. Sending love, Sue Allon.

To Rabbi Cook and the entire family: Susie was one of the kindest people I've ever known. Being welcomed into her circle so many years ago through my wife and in-laws always felt so easy and natural. May your memories of her be a comfort in what must be a terribly difficult time. Sending love from Florida,

Julian and Family, Jean and I are deeply saddened to learn of the death of your beloved wife, Susie...whom we all loved as well. The two of you were incredible "execs" of NAORRR, and it was our privilege and honor to have worked with you and Susie, and been the beneficiaries of her remarkable talent, ability, and love.

As a fellow teacher at Hillel Day School in Michigan, I will always remember Susie's joie de vivre! Her students were enthusiastic about learning and she made learning fun! She and her students created a model of a cave in a room at the end of the hall. Other classes were invited to explore it - with flashlights in hand. It was a huge success! Susie brought sunshine and excitement to learning. We always looked forward to receiving the humorous and heart warming New Year's Card. Wishing you good health and long life, Shelley Goldberg

Susie and I worked at Hillel Day School in Michigan, and then reconnected in Denver at Graland Country Day School. She was a wonderful, warm, always smiling teacher who was eager to share her Jewish traditions with the students at Graland. I can still hear us practicing "Oh, dreidel, dreidel, dreidel..." May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
