Susan Dickow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors - Utica on Jan. 9, 2026.
Susan L. Dickow, age 84, a resident of Shelby Township, Michigan and formerly of Boyne City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Shelby Township.

Susan was born on May 10, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, to Cass and Lottie (née Lancucki) Singletree. She was a proud graduate of Wayne State University, where she earned a degree in Art Education. Susan dedicated 30 years of her life to teaching art in the Detroit Public Schools, a vocation that reflected her deep love for creativity and education. Later in life, she returned to Wayne State University to earn her master's degree and went on to serve with distinction on the university's Board of Governors.

Teaching was Susan's true passion, and her love of art continued well into retirement as she remained an active and inspired artist. She was deeply involved in the Boyne City community, where she was a devoted member of the Boyne Valley Garden Club and Friends of the Boyne River. Susan generously volunteered her time assisting with community events and causes close to her heart.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Susan found joy in fishing, gardening, and mushroom hunting. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. A devoted child of God, Susan was a longtime parish member of St. Matthew's Church in Boyne City, where her faith was an important part of her life.

Susan will be remembered for her creativity, kindness, generosity, and genuine love for life, all of which left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her loving children: Elyse (David) Elwood, Matthew (Rosemary) Dickow, and Jennifer (the late Mark) Smigielski; and her cherished grandchildren, Luke, Monica, Gillian, Gabriel, Angelina, Miranda, and Suzanne, along with many loving extended family members and dear friends.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Cass and Lottie Singletree; and her siblings, Gail Pipella, Diane Rieman, and Christopher Singletree.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Susan's life with a visitation on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 2-8pm at the Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home 8459 Hall Rd (3 Blks E. of Van Dyke) Utica.

A funeral mass and visitation will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at St. Peter's Catholic Church 95 Market Street, Mount Clemens, gathering at the church will start at 9:30 am until the time of mass 10am.

Interment at Maple Lawn Cemetery Boyne City, Michigan.
