Edward Lawrence Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors - Utica on Feb. 20, 2026.
Edward Joseph Lawrence, Jr., age 92, of Sterling Heights, Mich., passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Born in Detroit in 1933 to Edward Sr. and Irene Lawrence, Ed graduated from St. Anthony High School and earned a BS in Industrial Management from the University of Detroit. He enlisted in the US Army and served honorably, making Specialist 4 and earning a Rifle Marksmanship Badge.

Afterwards, he worked at General Motors as a Financial Manager for over 30 years, then held several part-time jobs to keep busy in retirement. He loved to play cards with his friends as well as go on excursions to the casinos in Detroit and Windsor. He built his kids a treehouse where no trees existed. He loved to play games and cards, go bowling, as well as boating on the "high seas" of Lake St. Clair. Ed loved to dance whenever he got the chance. He kept his fierce streak of independence to the end, only giving up driving himself around a couple of years ago, and rode his mobility scooter everywhere he could. Ed was a longtime member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Warren.

Ed was the beloved husband of 55 years to Anna Marie (passed in 2023), loving father of Bill (Elaine), Dan (Monica) and Kathleen Ann Lawrence. Adored grandfather of Charlotte, David, Bliss, Vivian, Summer and Skye. Supportive and loving uncle to his brother Jim and Teddy's children, Steve (Wendy) Lawrence, Joy (Tony) Warchol, Julie (Floyd) Vitale, Karen (Dan) Brohl and Kelly Lawrence, and his great nieces and nephews. He kept a busy social life with lunches with high school classmates and outings at the Sterling Heights community and senior centers, where he met his dear friend Shirley Clark.

Private burial to take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the Sullivan & Son Funeral Home in Utica.
