Jason Scanlan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors - Utica on Feb. 19, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jason Scanlan at the age of 55. Jason was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 22, 1970, and passed away February 19, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, friend, and retired employee here at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home whose joyful and humorous spirit will be missed dearly.

Jason is survived by his devoted wife, Cathy Scanlan; his beloved daughter, Sierra Scanlan; his mother, Lydia Scanlan; and his brother, Owen Scanlan. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Scanlan.

A lifelong fan of Ohio State Buckeyes, Jason could often be found cheering passionately for his home team, even if his fellow Michigan fans hated it. Jason loved expressing himself through tattoos and that even included the Ohio State logo on his leg. He was a man who appreciated life's everyday pleasures, good music, tending to his garden, the thrill of a fishing trip, and of course, a plate of bacon, his all-time favorite.

Anyone who knew Jason knew his deep love for animals, but especially cats. He never turned away a stray, always making sure they were fed and cared for. His compassion extended beyond animals to everyone who knew him. With a quick wit and a warm smile, he had a remarkable sense of humor that could lighten any room. He was always listening to music, and he especially loved attending concerts, he enjoyed sharing those moments with the people he cared about most.

Above all, Jason loved to be with his family, he was a loving husband and a very proud father. His laughter, kindness, and generous spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, with instate at 9 a.m. until the time of the mass at 10 a.m. at St Lawrence Catholic Church, 44633 Utica Rd. in Utica.
